The number and ring meter still work when an optional factor is missing. A missing optional factor reduces confidence.

Planning support, not a catch guarantee

A missing required observation factor can make the index unavailable even when partial weather is shown. A forecast is not presented as a current observation.

BiteIndex brings several weather factors into one estimate. The weather view also lets you inspect the conditions themselves: air pressure and its trend, wind, air temperature and cloud cover.

Observation and forecast are different

The pressure chart distinguishes observations from forecasts. Use the 24-hour and three-day views to examine changes over time. A future forecast is not a measurement from the water.

Use the estimate alongside your own notes

A single score cannot describe every species, lake or fishing method. Compare the conditions with earlier entries in your fishing log and take account of the place and method you intend to use.

The useful question is not only whether the score is high, but what is changing in the conditions and what you have observed there before.

Is BiteIndex scientifically validated?

No. It is a heuristic estimate based on weather factors, not a scientifically validated probability of catching fish.

Why can the index be unavailable?

A missing required observation factor can prevent the index from being calculated, even when some weather information is available. A missing optional factor reduces confidence.

Does the pressure chart show measured weather or a forecast?

It can show both, separated visually. Observations are drawn with a solid line and forecasts with a dashed line.

Can I search for a lake?

The location search includes named water bodies as well as municipalities. Data availability can differ by location.
